If they want to make an emo version of Les Miserables
or West Side Story this band should be the ones who have the honor of making
the music. The singer is always singing in key with perfect pitch and holds
all his notes out to the fullest extent. Although this sounds like a good
thing it can become incredibly annoying. Emo bands don't generally have
singers that had solos in chorus in high school; I can almost guarantee
this singer was a brown nosing chorus loving fool in high school. Okay that
was a little harsh but I just get frustrated sometimes when individuals
and bands don't produce something to their fullest potential. After hearing
the song Break Blossom I became very interested in the band. Next up on
the cd is dancing in the rear view mirror. It begins with a great bells
intro I was thinking I am going to love this. Then the vocals come in and
I'm like this is a little odd. I don't know what audience this band is trying
to appeal to but they are really alienating themselves from every group
of people that I'm aware of. A close second to the worst song on the CD
would be A Fighting word, the lyrics and way the song is presented is inexcusably
bad. If it weren't for the ridiculous intro to And the wick is burnt black,
a fighting word would have easily received the award of worst song on this
CD. I can't really put my finger on this album. The more I listen to this
disc the more confused I become. First listen I was like eh this is pretty
bad. Then I liked it, then I hated it, then I liked it again, and now I'm
just sitting here baffled.
My Advice to you: If you want to hear something different and not necessarily in a good way then I highly recommend this CD. If not hold out on this release and hope they refine their sound for their next release. My Advice to the band: The instrumental part of your band is outstanding, but your lyrics and vocals are atrocious. Oddly though it isn't because your singer can't sing, I think he is just trying too hard to make it sound pretty. He should stop taking singing lessons and start listening to more music like the kind of music he sings for. If you want to be the lead singer for U2 or REM or something of that nature then I'm sure you'll do a great job; but currently you are the lead singer of an emo band so stop trying to be something you aren't and do your job. Maybe then your listeners wouldn't be so darn confused with what they are hearing.
