In doing an hour of actual work a day I accomplish more than a regular
office employee in an eight-hour day. Am I a fast worker or is the state
of the workplace really that dire? Do workers no longer have any pride
for what they are attempting to achieve? I have seen those who spend
more time deciding where to order lunch from and what they are going
to get than they do on actually working. When you look back on your
day and think what did I do today and your only response is order Grilled
Cheese, are you really proud of that? If you are sitting there thinking
no I am not proud of that, I should have ordered a Cheeseburger; you
are missing the point here.
As I walk these halls I see and hear constant chatter. This chatter
would be acceptable if accompanied by work, but all it is accompanied
by is the occasional hand motion to further the explanation of the story
I've heard them tell 3 co-workers already. No one ever yells at me and
tells me to do work and I don't have a problem with that. Apparently
though us Americans can't handle that sort of self-motivating workplace.
If you are going to come to work and go through the motions why don't
you just stay home and collect social security with all those individuals
that claim they can't get a job.
Anyone can find a job in less than Twenty-Four hours I guarantee that.
You might not be Mr. 100,000 dollar a year executive but at least you
will be earning what you get. Maybe if you work hard enough you will
move up from your low paying job to a middle salary one and so on. I'm
sick of people saying I've been working here for five years I deserve
a raise. Just because you were present here for five years doesn't mean
you have been working the whole time. Your level of work is probably
equivalent to maybe three months of actual work. If you can find a job
that gives you a raise after every three months please do me a favor
and sign me up. You can tell yourself whatever you want but unless you
can make a list of the things you accomplished at work each day you
come home, don't bother going for a raise. Even if you get one you don't
deserve it and you should be ashamed of yourself for asking.
The group of people I will never be able to understand is the people
that do no work while they are at work then they go home and mow their
lawn, plant their garden, wash their car, and then make dinner. Why
do they have this drive to complete these at home tasks but at their
given profession which they are getting paid to work they sigh at the
thought of lifting a finger. Doors don't open themselves; you have to
earn what you get. The dictionary definition of earn is
1. To gain especially for the performance of service, labor, or work
2. To acquire or deserve as a result of effort or action
3. To yield as return or profit
Apparently the definition today's workers associate with the word earn
is
1. To sit around all day pondering how to fulfill my exciting evening
2. To look busy that way no one questions my game of solitaire
3. To go to the bank to cash in my check for the week
That third so called definition is the one that stands out to me the
most. Workers believe that earning is when you deposit your respective
paycheck. If bank accounts were based on what individuals really earned
then many would be left penniless. Is that what this all comes down
to dollars and cents?
As a child if you are asked to dust the house you don't think yes I
will do this to help the family; you instead are pondering if this factors
into your allowance or what will your parents do for you because you
completed this simple mundane task. Does this all stem back to childhood?
If parents would teach children pride for what they are doing would
that help the future leaders of America? If someone were proud of their
job they would put in that extra effort for the good of the company
rather than the fluffing of their paycheck.
The world is full of thieves and liars I am aware of that; unfortunately
there is nothing you can do about that. But, these are honest working
people that believe they are doing their best. If every American that
was in the working field actually did their "best" the production
levels would be through the roof. What workers are neglecting to understand
is simple economics if we all work hard and produced the greatest amount
of high quality products or services then we all benefit in the end
because that will drastically drive the price down. Instead of begging
for that raise do some actual work which will in turn stimulate the
economy and drive the prices of products down. When you look at your
bank account and see there is the same amount of money you've always
had, but it is worth more you have succeeded. Then and only then will
you know that you have actually earned your yearly income.
