Article Title

She makes me Rowling Mad

I have never read the Harry Potter books. Everyone claims to love them and I can't say how I feel either way because it would be hypocritical to give an opinion on something I haven't glanced at. I can however give my opinion on J.K. Rowling. Rowling's recent actions towards the New York Daily News are highly unacceptable. If I ever ran into her on the street (fat chance since I live in Philly and she is in Britain) I will be giving her a piece of my mind. For those of you that are unaware Rowling is suing the New York Daily News.

What did they do you ask? They simply published a few SMALL EXEPERTS from her current Harry Potter book. Doesn't sound that bad to you does it, but it gets worse. The book contains over 850 pages and the experts they printed were not revealing any major plot points or story twists. I can understand she would be upset since there was an injunction set in place that disallowed any publishing of any part of the book until after it was released. I would figure maybe a small lawsuit of around 1 million dollars would be sufficient as sort of a slap on the wrist to a large paper such as the New York Daily News which would in turn set an example for all other newspapers. This however is not the case she is suing the paper for 100 Million dollars. You have GOT to be kidding me 100 MILLION DOLLARS??

She claims that by them publishing this it ruined some of her marketing campaigns for the book. Last time I check Ms. Rowling free advertising about your book in a respectable newspaper is never bad for a marketing campaign. Just because the Harry Potter books have made you richer than the queen (that is no sarcastic exaggeration…she really is richer than the queen of England) does not mean that you can act like a queen. You are worth a bazillion dollars (now that is exaggeration) why would you bother with a lawsuit such as this. You already have plenty of money to last for the next twenty generations of your family and the "Order of the Phoenix" is going to sell countless copies whether you have any marketing campaign at all.

Let me ask you this Ms. Rowling ten years ago when you were living in a small one-bedroom apartment with no heat would you sue a newspaper for ultimately promoting your work. Would you have said, "How dare you quote my unreleased work". If your answers to those questions were yes you are either lying or you are a fool. In the end pointless lawsuits such as this only accomplish one thing, which is of course tainting your reputation as a person. According to many individuals thoughts on these books they are excellent and they are getting children to read and I commend you for that, but don't let the fame go to your head. I in no way condone the New York Daily News's actions but your response was austerely unacceptable.
