Why your kid looks like he should be floating above a football stadium
Don't sit there and go no not me, yes you. You are the problem. You have no right to blame anyone but yourself. As a child I didn't work a job to make money most of my income came from my parents. How are these children paying for their McDonalds and further more how are they getting to McDonalds in the first place? You drive them there and you fork over the five dollars that on a good week will get they around three Big Macs and some fries. Some may argue well my kid is a paperboy and he rides his bike to McDonalds and spends the money he earns doing that. They of course would be saying this just to disagree with me because they are lying. You see this scenario simply isn't possible. I have never seen a 200 pound 13 year old delivering the paper nor have I seen a 200 pound kid on a bike (I'm sure there is some I just haven't seen it). However, what I have seen is a 200 pound kid devouring an army worth of food in front of their respective parental units at McDonalds. You allowing them to divulge in exurbanite amounts of fast food isn't the only reason they are large either. Video games, TV, lack of exercise, and bad adult examples are also to blame. There is nothing wrong with video games or television but as with anything it can't be used in excess. If your little Johnny plays baseball video games too much he isn't going to want to go outside and play baseball anymore. Real life satisfaction disappears because it doesn't have the quick pace and instant gratification that a video game provides. Getting outside and getting exercise is very important. I am not saying make your child run five miles or do a hundred push ups, make them play basketball or anything of that nature. If they get into a routine and start to get in shape what they eat really won't make that much of a difference in their weight. Children should have fun and do many different activities but exercise is important too. You don't want to have a 16 year old that is completely unable to participate in any activities outside because they are overweight, out of shape, and not willing to get involved. When I say bad adult examples I am referring to two groups of people parents and teachers. Some parents tell their children to exercise and eat right when they sit around all day and eat Twinkies. This gives a child a very distorted image of what is right because of the hypocritical views that are being thrown at them. The group of people that is even worse than parents are gym teachers. This doesn't apply to all of them and I'm sure the ones that this isn't about know it isn't referring to them. Throughout my life I have had many gym teachers that were easily 100 pounds over weight maybe even more. This is the same person that is telling me to exercise and eat right. They are yelling and encouraging me to do 20 more push-ups when they can't even do 3 themselves. They encourage you to run a mile and follow along for 1/8th of a mile but stop because they are so winded. Maybe these people were physically fit at some point in their lives but they need to stay in shape if they are going to be preaching exercise to children. In the end you could easily blame many groups of people and many corporations
for the weight problem with our youth, but it all comes back to the
parents. Don't let your kids control you. You are there to guide them
and make their life as high quality as it can possibly be while still
remaining respectable people in the process. "The thing that impresses
me the most about America is the way parents obey their children."~
